Dog Health

Dog's unlike people, are unable to readily tell you when something is wrong. Dog's generally have a higher threshold for pain than humans, and in some cases without an alert owner to changes in their behaviour, illness or injury may be present for a long time before being recognized, making treatment both harder and more expensive.

Be alert for changes in behaviour, appearance, eating habits and weight of your dog, on a daily basis.

This section of the site is currently (May 2012) undergoing some changes.  This section has grown organically as new articles were submitted by writers is on a variety of topics that we will now be seeking to categorise the articles into different varieties mainly:-

  1. Articles relating to the general care of your dog, things you can do to preserve the good health of your dog or prevent them suffering injury and illness.
  2. Different conditions and illnesses that are commonly are not so commonly seen in dogs. These conditions and illnesses will be described, their symptoms details on whether appropriate treatments these treatments will be listed. Though there will be a focus on conditions and diseases likely to be encountered by dogs in Australia, we will also be detailing diseases and conditions that are either not prevalent or even completely unknown to occur in Australian Dogs, such as Rabies and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

It is important to note that we are not trying with this section of the dog site to replace the role of your vet in diagnosing health problems in your dog.  Certainly there is nothing that can quite compare to actually examining the patient - something that we certainly can't do.  Look to the articles here as a guide to providing for the good health of your dog or providing some clue to the problem should you notice that something is amiss your dog's health if you think something is really amiss take your dog to the vet!
